Having been in the racing industry for more than 25 years and through the tutelage of his father, who himself was a very successful Jockey and Trainer since 1953, Phil Grimm Jr. has accumulated his knowledge from some well respected names in the industry as Ron Warren, Doug Davis, Ben Perkins Sr. and Robert Durso. As a exercise rider Phil has galloped such notables as; California Wild Cat (2 time Breeders Cup winner), Sefa's Beauty (1.7 million), Gulf Reckoning etc.

  As a licensed trainer since 1983 Phil has had success maintaining just a few Horse's in his stable. One of his most notable highlights is the good race mare Bracalena. She having raced from 1983 through 1985, ran 22 times winning 11 of these races including, The Rare Treat G3 (Aqueduct), The Glassboro and Oranges Handicaps (Meadowlands) and the Fair Haven Hcp (Monmouth Park). Earning over $230,000 (today’s purse equivalent $700,000.) and being awarded the title "New Jerseys Handicap Race Mare Of The Year", (was also weighted in the Experimental free Handicap). Some others to mention are, Vini Qua: 6 wins in 8 starts (5 consecutive), Tender Heart: 3 in a row 4 out of 6, Loading Zone: 2 win in 6 days earning over $53,000. for that hat trick!

  In the past few years, Phil has become involved in breeding his own mares and the results are already beginning to pay off. The foal of his first personal breeding venture has earned over $160,000 (not including breeders awards). He by no means claims to be an authority on the art of mating, but has an interest in searching out new stallions that may be introduced at a good introductory price. One such horse was Belong to Me when he was standing in New York for a fee of $5,000. He is currently standing in Kentucky for a price of $35,000.
